The Hoosac Tunnel is the longest railroad tunnel in Massachusetts at 4.75 miles, and one of the longest tunnels in the United States. Built between 1851 and 1875 (though the eastern portal says 1877 - presumably the year when trains first traveled the route), it is now only used for a few freight trains a day. All the pictures are from the east portal - the west portal is much less accessible.
